Segora Short Story Competition
(
St. Clementin in Deux-Sevres, SW France, is thought to be the site of an ancient Roman city called Segora)

First prize: £100 or equivalent in euros.
Additional prizes may be awarded at the discretion of the competition organiser. 

Rules and guidelines:

Entries may be on any theme, not previously published or prize winners and must be written in English and double spaced in 12 point.
Word count: 1500 to 3000.

This year’s judge, Dr. Rose Jack, lectures in the Department of English and Creative Writing at Lancaster University. She has taught classes in Adult Education and led community reading and drama groups. The judge’s decision is final. No submissions will be returned.

In 2010 we propose to publish an anthology of prize winning and commended entries to the Segora competitions.

The deadline for entries was: 29th May 2009
Winners will be notified on or before 7th August 2009
The winning entry will be published on this web site

Segora Open Poetry Competition

Rules, guidelines and How To Enter:

First Prize: £100  Second Prize: £30  Third Prize: £15

Rules and guidelines:

The entries must be:

1. in clearly-presented English, either hand-written or typed
2. of no more than 40 lines excluding the title
3. the exclusive work of the entrant
4. unpublished and not already accepted for publication
5. submitted to be received in France by post on or before the deadline of 14th November, 2009.
6. accompanied by the appropriate entry fee
    (NB: maximum of 5 poems per entrant)
7. accompanied by the entry form downloadable below; or by a separate sheet with the
    entrant’s name, address, telephone number and email if applicable, together
    with the title(s) of the submitted poem(s).

The entries may be:

1. on any subject
2. in a particular form or in free verse

NB: Please ensure that the author is not identifiable on the poetry sheets themselves.

Entry fees:

for one poem: £3.50 or 4€
for two poems: £6 or 6.50€
for three poems: £8 or 8.50€
for four poems: £9.50 or 10.50€
for five poems: £11 or 12€

  The judge:

The awards will be decided upon by Gordon Simms, published poet and playwright, who will offer his adjudication on this site:  A selection of Gordon’s poems may be read by clicking here.

No correspondence will be entered into concerning any aspect of the judging process. Winners will be notified on or before January 1st, 2010, by telephone or email.

The prize-winning poems will be published on this website where ideas for creative writing can be freely accessed. In 2010 we propose to publish an anthology featuring winning and commended entries to the Segora competitions.
