(300 words)

The vignette is a word-picture. It may be likened to the art expressed in a cameo or a miniature painting. It can be insightful, poignant, exciting, amusing or shocking. It may encapsulate a moment of discovery, or be a precise snapshot conveying something memorable to the reader about a character or an event. The territory is somewhere between a poem and a short story.
The Third Segora
Short Story Competition is now open - deadline May 29th 2010
The judge is Alan
McMunnigall. He was born in Glasgow and teaches creative writing and literature
at The University of Glasgow.
His fiction has appeared in numerous literary magazines and journals, and an
illustrated version of his long short story the atheist was published in
2007.
He has recently finished a book-length story cycle (edited by the poet Tom
Leonard).
