Writers Retreats in France
We have the perfect spot for peace and tranquility. Our watermill, situated on the river Argenton (the silver river), is a dream location for artists and writers. The mill itself dates from the 11th century whilst some of the buildings seen today are 15thcentury.
Stay in our beautifully appointed riverside apartment, The Granary, or in our 19th century Miller’s House to work on your project.
Support and encouragement can be provided by Gordon and Jocelyn, or you may choose to work in solitude. Both venues are fully furnished with all mod cons. In addition we provide free access to the internet, bikes and a rowing boat. The surrounding countryside, the Bocage, is gentle, well-wooded and just right for walking and cycling, whilst in the immediate vicinity there are pretty villages and historic churches.
We are not far from some of the magnificent chateaux of the Loire valley, nor from Green Venice - a protected site of outstanding beauty consisting of a labyrinth of canals constructed in the 17th century by Dutch engineers - whilst on the Atlantic coast, the largest beaches in France are within an easy drive.
‘Jocelyn and Gordon provided me with a marvelous opportunity to start my long-awaited novel. Their discreet support - together with their well-stocked library - made my stay both inspiring and fruitful.’
Barbara Nichols, Isle of Skye, 2010
